EIE provides an opportunity for outstanding high school students to spend a semester or summer in Israel under the sponsorship of the Reform Movement. This experience is intended to develop young leadership and to increase Jewish knowledge and commitment to Jewish life and learning.
FACTS ABOUT EIE:
- By combining classroom and field study, student witness in a “hands on” manner the flow of Jewish history. They also study Hebrew as it is a crucial tool in understanding both ancient and modern Israeli History and culture. Students take a daily Hebrew Ulpan course.
- EIE is based at Kibbutz Tzuba located outside of Jerusalem. Students become an integral part of kibbutz life.
- Students participate in many special experiences throughout the semester. They make a week long pilgrimage to Poland including a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau, they experience Gadna, a simulated army experience, as well as the Negev Desert Adventure and the Yam L’ Yam (Sea to Sea) Expedition. During these trips, the students have an unforgettable time hiking and exploring in Israel, camping out under the stars, riding camels, etc.
Students build a reform Jewish community where they help create daily worship services, learn Reform Jewish philosophy and ideology, experience progressive Judaism in Israel, Shabbat services in the Reform custom and celebrate the Jewish calendar in Israel. This is a very meaningful part of the program which enhances their time there while helping them create incredible lifelong friendships.
- EIE is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools
